GCS Malta is hiring a Head of Legal to join one of Malta’s leading financial institutions.
The ideal candidate should hold a Doctor of Laws (LLD) and be warranted to practise in Malta, with at least five years of experience in legal roles. A minimum of three years in a senior leadership position will be considered an advantage.
This role requires experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of legal documents, as well as proven experience engaging with regulators and/or authorities. A strong understanding of banking-related legal frameworks is essential.
Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to proactively and effectively resolve issues.

GCS Malta is hiring a Head of Legal to join one of Malta’s leading financial institutions.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing all legal matters of the Bank and providing guidance to senior management and the Board
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and legal documentation
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and assessing operational impact
- Identifying legal risks and implementing mitigation strategies
- Managing and coordinating external legal counsel
- Maintaining legal records, agreements, and correspondence
- Supporting management committees and strategic decision-making with legal input
- Leading and mentoring the Legal team in line with organisational objectives
- Collaborating with Compliance, Risk, AML/FCC, and other control functions
- Reporting legal and data protection matters to the CEO and Board
- Providing legal interpretation and regulatory guidance across departments
- Supporting governance processes and regulatory engagements
- Liaising with regulators such as the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), European Central Bank (ECB), and Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU)
