Head of Mechanical Design & Estimations

GCS Malta is looking for a Head of Mechanical Design & Estimations to work with a leading building-services company in Malta. The chosen candidate will be reporting directly to the Chief Business Development Officer.
 

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing a Mechanical Design & Estimations Department, including workload planning and delivery oversight
• Mentoring and developing engineering team members
• Overseeing tendering, cost estimation, and value engineering activities
• Reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations for technical and commercial compliance
• Supporting procurement and selection of equipment and materials
• Managing project handover from estimation to operations
• Providing technical support during project execution and resolving site issues
• Ensuring compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and procedures
• Identifying and managing technical and commercial risks
• Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
• Driving training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives

Applicants must hold a Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related degree and be a warranted Engineer. Experience in mechanical building services design and estimation within the MEP or construction sector is required.

This role requires strong knowledge of HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire-fighting systems, plant rooms, and equipment selection, along with commercial awareness of estimating, procurement, tender risk, and value engineering.

Strong leadership, communication, coordination, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are essential.
